I graduated from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Oswego with two Bachelors of Science degrees in both Meteorology and Applied Mathematics. In addition, I just recently graduated with my Masters of Science in Earth System Science from the University of California, Irvine (UCI). I held numerous research positions at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the National Science Foundation, and locally at SUNY Oswego / UCI studying a wide range of topics from in-field lake-effect snow storm studies to creating numerical models of the Antarctic ice sheet. In addition to my research, I have approximately five years of both one-on-one and class-room based teaching experience with excellent reviews in both areas.
I started teaching in a class-room setting and while I enjoyed being able to impact multiple students at a time, tutoring allowed me to connect one-on-one with my students. While academics comes first, I found myself truly enjoying not just getting to know my students through their work, but also through their passions, future goals, and quirks that makes each one of them an individual. Doing so allows me to understand how each of my students should be presented class material and allows them to feel comfortable knowing they are understood and cared for. While in-class teaching has many benefits, I found that there is no better way of helping a student then to first form this personal connection and mold our lessons to fit their learning styles.
Growing up in a small mountain town in northern New Jersey, I have always loved the outdoors. Whether it was hiking through the woods, building tree houses, watchinh thunderstorms roll through in the summer, playing in feet of snow in the winter, I could not be outside enough (this is what led to me getting my degrees in both meteorology and earth system science!). I held onto this passion as an adult and have grown to love trail running. The miles of trails that lace through the hills of southern California have become a sanctuary for me to both unwind and get away from the fast pace lifestyle of this area. Aside from the outdoors, I enjoy sitting down to a good movie / show, catching up with my family back in New Jersey, being a beach-bum, and traveling around this diverse world of ours.
