After high school, I went to Bucknell University, where I majored in philosophy and political science and graduated Cum Laude. I then moved to California and earned a Master of Arts in Teaching from University of California, Irvine. I am a credentialed California history teacher and former public school teacher. I have tutored students in AP History & English classes for the last six years, as well as in SAT & ACT test preparation, and reading and writing enrichment.
I became an educator because I love to teach. I think one of the most important things I can do is to show students how much bigger and more interesting the world is than what they've already experienced, and teaching history and English provides a way to do that. I am passionate about tutoring because, when I can work with students in a one on one context, it is easier for them to interact with the material, ask questions, take the necessary time to think through the difficult concepts, and ultimately learn than it is for them to do those things in a crowded classroom. When I can see students make progress and enjoy learning, it makes me more excited to work with them.
When I am not working, I am still a massive history nerd, so I still spend (perhaps too much) time reading about history, philosophy, politics, sociology, and economics. I am also a basketball fan, but, being from the East Coast, am always happy to see the Lakers lose. I also enjoy science fiction, odd TV comedies, and riffing on really bad movies with my friends.
