“I’m not telling you it is going to be easy — I’m telling you it’s going to be worth it”

Art Williams

The SSAT, or Secondary School Admission Test, is a test administered by the Enrollment Management Association for students in grades 3-11. Preparing for the SSAT can be extremely stressful because it is vital for students to score well in order to receive admittance into their private schools of choice.Without guidance, students may spend hours studying unable to identify where they are going wrong!

Allow the tutors at TutorNerd to guide your student to their greatest potential and make the SSAT a task that cannot only be survived, but conquered. Our SSAT tutors help a variety of students improve their performance with clear results. They first assess a student’s strengths and areas of improvement, and then recommend a comprehensive learning plan according to the student’s individual goals. For example, the SSAR has 4 sections: Quantitative, Reading, Verbal, and Writing Sample. If a student is excelling in Quantitative, but struggling with Reading, we primarily focus on remediating the students reading skills while refining and maintaining the student’s developed quantitative skills.

The SSAT is administered by grade level: the Elementary Level (grades 3 & 4); the Middle Level (grades 5-7); and Upper Level (grades 8-11). For the Elementary Level, the test is administered in 1 hours and 50 minutes. Test takers receive 1 point for a correct answer, and 0 for a blank or incorrect answer. For the Middle and Upper level, the test is administered in 3 hours and 5 minutes. Test takers receive 1 point for a correct answer and 0 points for a blank answer; a quarter of a point is deducted for an incorrect answer.

Do note, the SSAT also has a ungraded essay component that is sent to schools as a writing sample. Elementary Level students receive 15 minutes to complete the writing sample; Middle and Upper Level students receive 25 minutes to complete the writing section. Though the essay is not graded, it is still vital for students to do well.
